It will be held in Glasgow, under the co-presidency of the United Kingdom and Italy, bringing together 197 countries to collectively address the urgent global climate crisis.
In response, we hosted our own team 'conference' which we’re calling 'COP15' to discuss how we, as individuals, can address climate change within our lives, our venue and the event industry as a whole.
The consequences of climate change have become ever more apparent in our everyday lives and tackling it can feel like a mammoth task. But all is not lost. Since our inception 13 years ago, we at 15Hatfields have always believed that small individual changes can make a huge difference, and we've therefore decided to share some of the outcomes of our very own 'COP15' to reveal the pledges and actions that we plan to take in 2022 to reduce our carbon footprint, with the aim of inspiring others to do the same.
At 15Hatfields, we work closely with organisations in the Southbank and Southwark areas to deliver environmental initiatives and create a sustainable community that is safe for everyone. Our General Manager, Warren Campbell, has pledged to walk all journeys that take less than 30 minutes. He says: "The effects of climate change disproportionately impact the poorest and most vulnerable communities. It's alarming that almost all of London exceed the World Health Organization's (WHO) air pollution limits, so making this change in my everyday life will make a small but important difference to our local community."
Our central location at 15Hatfields means that walking to the venue and using public transport is quick and easy for all delegates; this instantly reduces the amount of car traffic around the venue, making it a breath of fresh air for everyone! Our Marketing Assistant, Danielle Farrell, has pledged to abandon her petrol car and swap it for an electric one. Danielle said: "Living outside of London means that, as much as I'd like to rely on public transport, there are many places that a bus or train can't take me to, so unfortunately I still need to drive sometimes. To help reduce my carbon footprint, I'm planning on swapping my old, high-polluting car for an electric model in 2022."
Taking a slightly different angle, our Client Services Manager, Joe Harris, has been inspired by the responsible consumption initiatives we have employed at 15Hatfields. Joe is our 'sustainable supplier guru'; he can source the best sustainable alternative to just about anything. In 2022, Joe has pledged to take this skill and implement it in his family life. "This has been an eye-opening year for me. The birth of my daughter has inspired me to think more about the world we're creating for her generation. In 2022, I'm pledging to shop from local grocers with ethical supply chains; this ensures that the food my family eats has come from a fair and sustainable source."
Within the venue, we have pledged to maintain and develop our existing sustainable goals. We ensure these goals align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, and climate action. These three goals have been present within our business framework since opening our doors in 2008 and will continue to form the basis of our decisions way into the future. Stay tuned for the things we have planned in 2022...
