About this conference

Health and safety experts will discuss the key issues of today, including lithium-ion batteries and whether the new government campaign will be effective. There will be sessions dedicated to complex investigations, and how to ensure officers feel supported when dealing with harrowing evidence or fatalities.

Andy Lucas

Andy Lucas CMIOSH CEnvH MIIRSM, Managing Director at Bespoke Safety. Andy has over 30 years’ experience working in health and safety as a regulator, senior lecturer, trainer and consultant in local government, HSE and the private sector. His focus is fatal accident investigation, application of PACE, Coroners Inquests and carrying out complex investigations leading to prosecution as an advisor to local authorities and Expert Witness.

Iwan Llewellyn

Iwan Llewellyn, EHO, Carmarthenshire County Council. Iwan is an Environmental Health Officer with over 27 years’ experience, specialising in food safety, food standards, infectious disease, and health and safety at work. Currently working at Carmarthenshire County Council, he has investigated numerous serious health and safety incidents. Previously seconded to HSE as Partnership Liaison Officer, he is currently chair of the South-West Wales Health and Safety Task Group and a member of the All-Wales Expert Panel. He is also a health and safety representative of UNISON, and a member of the CIEH Health and Safety Advisory Panel.

Paul Spurrier

Paul Spurrier, Head of HSE’s Local Authority Team. Paul joined the team just over two years ago. His team has the strategic and policy lead for the coregulatory partnership between Local Authorities and HSE. He has been with HSE for over 35 years, in a variety of roles including, regulating health and safety legislation in a range of different sectors, operational research, HR and development roles, frontline operational management and policy development roles. Paul has worked in several of HSE’s Divisions including Field Operations, Human Resources, Major Hazards, Chemicals Regulation Division and Engagement and Policy Division.

Simon Main

Simon Main, Think CO Programme Manager, The Gas Safe Charity.  The Gas Safe Charity runs a number of gas safety projects and Simon manages the Think CO UK programme with his colleague Hilary. It’s been running for nearly 10 years now and aims to raise awareness of the sources, signs and symptoms of CO poisoning to staff who support or work with vulnerable people. The programme focuses on the risks of long term, low level poisoning, undiagnosed symptoms and fuel poverty pressures. The programme has developed a mix of resources, including face to face and Zoom workshops, e-learning, translated materials and an App. For more information please contact [email protected] 

Tara Joe

Tara Joe, Public Affairs Manager, Electrical Safety First. Tara leads the charity's public affairs team for Westminster. She has worked in politics throughout her career, starting as a Political Staffer for a Member of Parliament. Prior to joining Electrical Safety First, she worked as a consultant delivering strategic public affairs advice to a range of clients across sustainability, housing and technology sectors
