Overview

Successful completion of the training programme for the CIEH Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid will provide candidates with the essential knowledge and skills to administer emergency paediatric first aid in a variety of settings. In particular, it teaches basic life-support skills and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, to enable candidates to deal with life-threatening emergencies.

The CIEH Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid replaces the CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Paediatric Emergency First Aid

Who needs this qualification?

The CIEH Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid has been developed for learners working in childcare, or those otherwise responsible for caring for infants and children, who want to learn about emergency paediatric first aid. While this qualification can contribute to the required 12 hours of training if learners subsequently wish to attain the CIEH Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid.

Why is this training important?

This qualification will provide learners with the essential knowledge and skills to administer emergency paediatric first aid in a variety of settings. It will enable learners to deal with life-threatening emergencies.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the qualification, the learner will:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  • Understand how to provide first aid to an infant and a child with anaphylaxis.
